The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, in partnership with Exhibitions and Trade Services India Pvt. Ltd. (ETSIPL), Lanestar Enterprises Uganda Ltd, the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) and other sector partners are holding the 4th edition of Power and Electric Expo taking place from the 9th to 11th July 2026 at the UMA Multipurpose Hall.
Organised under the theme: “Scaling Energy 10X: Technology, Sustainability and Global Impact.” the 4th Power & Elec International Expo and Forum 2026, will bring together government leaders, policymakers, investors, technology innovators, manufacturers, development partners and energy experts to accelerate the country’s transition towards a modern, technologydriven and sustainable energy sector.

Hon. Sidronius Okaasai Opolot Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development (Energy) said this event comes at a defining moment in Uganda’s development journey as Government implements Vision 2040, the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV) and the national ambition of achieving ten-fold economic growth.
“The next phase of Uganda’s transformation is not simply about generating more electricity. It is about ensuring that every unit of energy powers productive enterprise, supports industrialisation, creates jobs, drives innovation and improves the livelihoods of our people,” the Minister said.
According to the minister Uganda has made remarkable progress in expanding electricity generation, transmission and distribution over the past two decades, the country’s focus is now shifting towards maximising the economic value created by its energy and mineral resources.

“The Ministry’s strategic outlook is increasingly guided by three critical questions: Where is the money? Where are the industries?
And where is the energy? These questions, she explained, are intended to ensure that investments in energy and minerals generate maximum economic returns, support value addition and industrial development, and keep Uganda’s energy supply ahead of growing demand,”Okaasi stated.
Across the world, technologies such as artificial intelligence, smart grids, battery storage, digital metering and advanced energy management systems are transforming economies by improving efficiency, increasing productivity and creating entirely new opportunities for business and innovation. Uganda intends to embrace these technologies as part of building an intelligent, resilient and globally competitive energy sector.
The Expo reflects Government’s commitment to positioning energy as a strategic enabler of industrialisation and socio-economic transformation. It also supports Uganda’s Energy Transition Plan by promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean technologies and climate resilience.

Uganda’s electricity sector has recorded significant progress over the years. Installed generation capacity has grown to 2,098 MW, supported by the recent commissioning of the Karuma Hydropower Project and Nyagak III Hydropower Plant. Electricity access has reached 62.05 percent, comprising 24.05 percent on-grid and 38 percent off-grid, with more than 2.75 million electricity connections nationwide. Government remains committed to achieving universal access to electricity by 2030 through expanded grid infrastructure and decentralised clean energy solutions.
Okaasi reaffirmed goernment commitment to continue implementing policies that encourage private sector participation and innovation, including independent power transmission, net metering, energy efficiency programmes and investments in renewable energy technologies. Major generation projects under development include Ayago (840 MW), Oriang (392 MW), Kiba (400 MW) and geothermal development, alongside continued investments in solar, wind and nuclear energy.

“Uganda is also advancing its clean mobility agenda through the development of a national electric vehicle charging infrastructure and regulatory framework, while strengthening biofuels development through dedicated national technical committees. Preparatory activities for the country’s 8,400 MW Nuclear Power Programme in Buyende District are progressing, alongside specialised human resource development through the nuclear training programme at Soroti University,”he stressed.
The three-day Expo will feature international exhibitors and delegates from China, India, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and several other countries, providing opportunities for business-to-business engagement, investment promotion, technology transfer and knowledge exchange.
The programme includes a specialised Power & Elec Forum on 10 July 2026, which will focus on innovation, start-ups and emerging technologies under the technical theme: “Powering the Future: Innovation Pathways to 10-fold Energy Scale.”
“Uganda is open for investment and partnership. We are looking for collaborators who will not only invest capital, but also transfer technology, build local capacity, support innovation and create industries that add value within Uganda. Together, we can build an energy sector that powers enterprise, strengthens competitiveness and delivers lasting prosperity for our people,”the minister explained.
In conclusion the minister encouraged the public, private sector, academia and the media to participate in the Expo and engage with the latest technologies and investment opportunities shaping the future of Uganda’s energy sector.
