Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) Print School has launched a revamped digital skills  training modules  to power Uganda’s  creative and technical industry.

Caleb Kutamba, the Principal of the UPPC Print School says the move is aimed at meeting  the demands of a rapidly evolving market by integrating high-level digital courses, such as Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Web Design, into its traditional industrial printing foundation.

He noted that  the institution is leveraging its position as a premier state printer to provide a unique “production floor classroom” experience. By blending theoretical study with direct industrial application, the school has graduated more than 100 technicians over the past year.

According to Kutamba the expanded curriculum features high-impact modules in data analysis, digital printing, and computer maintenance. These are offered alongside specialized training in offset machine techniques, post-press processes, and desktop publishing. In the publishing track, students are required to master industry-standard software, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Kutamba said the school is committed to creating a direct pipeline to employment as a strategy to combat youth unemployment. The institution has already begun absorbing its own talent, retaining several high-performing graduates within the commercial printing and publishing wings of the UPPC, while others have secured roles in the private sector.

Beyond the classroom, the school provides students with a digital library and video-led practical demonstrations. Mr. Kutamba said the mission is to produce forward-thinking professionals who can navigate a competitive global market and contribute to the growth of local industry.

The facility is designed to provide “ideological grounding” for leaders to align with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) principles and national development goals. The institute hosts diverse groups, including Members of Parliament (MPs), district councillors, LCIII chairpersons, and public servants undergoing refresher training.
