Ugandan artist Joshua Baraka is currently the top-streamed artist in East Africa on Spotify, having overtaken Tanzanian star Diamond Platinum as of March 2026.
Baraka commands over 1.7 million monthly listeners, significantly growing his presence with popular tracks against Diamond Platnumz  1.5–1.6 million monthly listeners.
Baraka’s rise is heavily attributed to his 2025 hit “Wrong Places” and his EP Baby Steps
Diamond Platnumz had previously held this spot for years as the region’s top streaming powerhouse before being surpassed
However of African continent  Wizkid  is widely recognized as the top African artist on Spotify, with reports showing he has surpassed over 10 billion total streams, making him a leader in all-time and daily streams. Nigerian artists dominate the top spots, with Burna Boy and Rema also holding massive numbers (often exceeding 6-7 billion) and consistently ranking at the top alongside him
