Small Scale Entrepreneurs under their umbrella body Small Scale Entrepreneurs Association of Uganda have decried delayed payment by supermarkets in Kampala.
In a special meeting with their Chairman in Kampala suppliers called for quick intervention to enable supermarkets pay them in time to sustain their businesses and pay Taxes to Uganda Revenue Authority.
Robert Kabakyenga Small-scale Entrepreneurs and supplier Association of Uganda Chairman who doubles as Managing Director of Kyenga Investment limited assured members to follow up with all supermarkets to ease business operations.
Kabakyenga assured suppliers to follow up issues urgently wit supermarket so that all suppliers are paid in time.
He also pledged to dialogue with supermarket and ministry of trade to harmonize business transactions
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sec- tor plays a crucial role in the economic growth of Uganda with its GDP contribution standing at over 70%, and its employment and job creation rising to 90%.
Small-scale businesses, also known as Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), are vital to Uganda’s economy, accounting for a large portion of the private sector and Contributing significantly to te country GDP and employment . They are the backbone of Uganda’s economic activityUgandan micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) account for approximately 90 percent of the entire private sector, over 80 percent of manufactured output and contribute about 75 percent to the gross domestic product (GDP).
Commissioner for MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Joshua Mutambi called for harmony between suppliers and supermarket owners.
He said government will continue to support small-scale businesses through various initiatives focused on financing ,capacity building and creating favorable business environment.
These include providing access to credit facilities, business development services, and market linkages. The government also aims to streamline business regulations and enhance access to finance to foster a more supportive ecosystem for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
