The Special Forces Command (SFC) has honoured 67 officers and men for their dedicated and selfless service to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The retirees were recognised on Friday 7 th August, 2026 as they prepare to exit active military service after distinguished careers in the UPDF.
The group comprised four Captains, 17 Lieutenants, 23 Warrant Officers, nine Staff Sergeants, 12 Sergeants and two Corporals. Other senior officers who attended the function will receive their retirement certificates during the official UPDF retirement ceremony scheduled for 12 August 2026 at the UPDF Joint Headquarters in Mbuya.
She also recognised the important role played by the retirees’ spouses and families, noting that their sacrifices and unwavering support contributed significantly to the soldiers’ successful careers.
Representing the Commander-SFC, the Chief of Staff-SFC, Brig. Gen.John Mango Baraza, congratulated the retirees for their contribution to national security through military operations, VVIP protection, peace
support missions and other strategic assignments.
“Many of you have endured challenges in the course of duty, including long periods away from your families, working in risky environments and accepting sacrifices without hesitation,” Brig. Gen. Baraza said.
He urged the retirees to approach civilian life with optimism and put their skills and experience to productive use while maintaining the discipline,integrity, patriotism and resilience cultivated during their service.
Brig. Gen. Baraza further assured the retirees that the UPDF remains committed to the welfare of its veterans through the Directorate of Veteran Affairs.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Capt. Boaz Barigye Kazinduki, the senior-most among the junior officers, thanked the UPDF and SFC leadership for the guidance, opportunities and enabling environment that
allowed personnel to serve in various capacities.
He also appreciated the retirees’ families for their continued support and sacrifice throughout their military careers.
The ceremony was attended by brigade commanders, directors, senior and junior officers, non-commissioned officers, spouses and relatives of the retirees.
