The General Manager of Kampala Water has called upon the general public to report any form of water leakages and water theft in a bid to address revenue losses and make water affordable to all.
Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya has further reaffirmed NWSC commitment to ensuring access to clean, safe, and affordable water for all Ugandans
Lutaaya underscored the importance of water quality in promoting public health, economic productivity, and overall well-being.
Commenting about the challenges facing the water sector, Lutaaya identified water theft as one of the major obstacles to efficient service delivery.
“One of the major challenges is water theft, and those who have more are often the ones stealing the most,” he said.
In tackling the above challenge Lutaaya says NWSC is actively working with the Uganda Police Force and other enforcement agencies to curb illegal connections and water theft.
These efforts are aimed at safeguarding water infrastructure, reducing losses, and ensuring equitable distribution of water to all consumers.
According to Lutaaya Water theft comes in form illegal connections, meter tampering, and bypassing.
Available figures indicates that NWSC MD losses approximately Shs5 billion monthly from water theft and Shs60 billion annually.
Lutaaya reiterated NWSC’s commitment to expanding access to clean and safe water, enhancing affordability, and strengthening enforcement against illegal practices.
He called upon the public to support these efforts by using water responsibly and report any cases of water thefts and leakages
