Anita Rukundo Tayebwa, the newly appointed Honorary Consul of The Bahamas to Uganda, has officially pledged to unlock Uganda’s multi-billion-dollar tourism potential by leveraging the proven economic blueprint of the Caribbean nation.

The announcement follows the formal presentation of her letters of credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Adonia Ayebare in Kampala.

The diplomatic partnership aims to aggressively bridge the tourism gap between the two Commonwealth nations. Despite its smaller geographical and population footprint, The Bahamas has established a world-leading tourism model that Uganda seeks to replicate.

Hon. Consul Rukundo identified key operational areas where her office will foster public-private partnerships and knowledge exchange to maximize Uganda’s tourist arrivals and revenue:

Transforming Uganda’s exclusive eco-tourism assets—such as mountain gorillas and chimpanzees—into premium experiences that attract high-net-worth international visitors.

Unlocking the untapped economic potential of Uganda’s vast water bodies, particularly Lake Victoria, by introducing world-class marine tourism practices from the Caribbean.

Driving international investment into high-end hospitality infrastructure and destination branding to elevate visitor experience management.

Linking Ugandan tour operators with Caribbean counterparts to develop complementary, dual-destination travel packages.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed high institutional expectations for the new appointment. Amb.Adonia Ayebare remarked:

“The figures speak for themselves; we will count on you to tap the best practices from them. Uganda will benefit immensely from your representation.”

Prominent tourism investor Amos Wekesa and King Ceasar Mulenga, the Honorary Consul of Vietnam to Uganda both lauded the appointment as a critical milestone for expanding Uganda’s marine economy, trade, and people-to-people bilateral ties.

Supporting the appointment, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa praised his spouse’s proven executive capability and business acumen, highlighting her long-term vision to pivot Uganda’s tourism marketing toward high-value, top-tier global spenders.
