Uganda’s annual inflation rate for December stood at 3.1 percent according to Uganda Bureau of Statistics.
Annual food crops and related in terms inflation increased to 4.4percent in the years ending December 2025 compared to 4.0 percent registered in the year ended November 2025. this was attributed to irish potatoes whose price change was 2.3 percent compared to minus 5.9percent ,cabbage 35.7 percent compared to minus 0.6 percent,passion fruits 11.1 percent compared to minus 1.1,fresh cassava 8.9percent compared to 3.0,onions 3.7 percent compared to 8.2percent and green paper 25.2 percent compared to 5.4percent recorded in year ending November .
Aliziki K. Lubega, the UBOS Director of Economic Statistics, said the current inflation level is moderate. however, she noted that price fluctuations in essential commodities directly impact household spending power across the country.
“While the overall rate did not move, the cost of food crops rose to 4.4 percent in December, up from 4 percent in November. The statistics bureau reported sharp price increases for several produce items, including a 35.7 percent jump for cabbage and a 25.2 percent increase for green peppers,”he told the media during the monthly media interface.
According to the December report ,Energy and fuel costs also trended upward, with inflation in that sector rising to 1.4 percent from 0.6 percent.
UBOS officials attributed this change to higher prices for charcoal, firewood and petrol.
“These increases were offset by a significant drop in transport inflation, which fell to 0.1 percent from 1.4 percent in November. Slowing price growth in the clothing, footwear and hospitality sectors also helped maintain the steady headline rate,”Lubega stated.
Core inflation, which strips out volatile items like food crops and fuel, decreased slightly to 3.1 percent from 3.2 percent.
The data for 2025 shows an average annual inflation rate of 3.6 percent, a slight increase from the 3.3 percent recorded in 2024. Officials said the annual rise was largely due to the increased cost of services throughout the year.
Price trends varied by region, with high-income areas of Kampala recording the highest inflation at 4.2 percent. In contrast, Mbale recorded the lowest rate at 1 percent, aided by falling prices for household goods. The monthly headline inflation for December 2025 increased by 0.5 percent from 0.1 percent drop registered in November .This was mainly due to monthly core inflation that increased by 0.5percent in December 2025 from the 0.0percent registrered in November . Monthly food crops and related items inflation increased by 0.3percent in December from the 0.9 percent drop recorded in November.
