Supreme Court of Uganda has dismissed an application by former National Peasants Party presidential candidate Robert Kasibante seeking to delay proceedings in his election petition, clearing the way for the case to proceed within constitutionally mandated timelines. Rwanda has filed an international arbitration case against the United Kingdom over the cancellation of a controversial asylum agreement, accusing the British government of breaching financial and legal obligations under the deal. In a statement issued by Rwandan government, it had submitted a notice of arbitration to the Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), arguing that Britain failed to honour payment commitments following the termination of the Migration and Economic Development Partnership. Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced that the long-awaited results of the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) will be released on Friday, January 30, 2026. According to UNEB spokesperson Ms Jennifer Kalule, the release date was agreed upon on Wednesday evening following a closed-door meeting with the Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Kataha Museveni, who is also the First Lady. Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has elected 10 new military representatives to serve in the next Parliament for the 2026–2031 term. The election, conducted through the Defence Forces Council electoral college, took place at the Land Forces headquarters in Bombo, Luweero district on Wednesday. Uganda has become the third Absa Bank market, Absa Africa Financial Markets Index (AFMI) has revealed. The 2025 AFMI report, released assessed 28 African countries across key indicators including market depth, access to foreign exchange, market transparency, tax and regulatory environment, capacity of local investors, macroeconomic opportunity, and the enforceability of financial contracts, collateral positions, and insolvency frameworks. Uganda scored 66 points, improving from 64 points in 2024, to rank behind only South Africa (86 points) and Mauritius (76 points).
