NRM PARTY SETS DATES FOR CONFERENCES

Richard Todwong Secretary General of Mighty National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has officially announced the dates for its highly anticipated national delegates conference, a key event in preparation for the 2026 general elections.

Addressing media in Kampala, Todwong  said although national delegates conference will take place from August 27 to 28 at Kololo Independence Grounds other events will he held prior to the big event  

“Prior to the main event, a series of preparatory meetings will be held. The Central Executive Committee (CEC) will convene from August 20 to 22, followed by the National Executive Council on August 23. A separate national elective conference for special interest groups will be held on August 25,”Todwong stated.

Todwong outlined the eligibility criteria for participants at the national delegates conference. The extensive list includes top party leadership such as the national chairperson, vice chairpersons, regional leaders from all six regions, NRM Members of Parliament, East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) representatives, party flag bearers, and district chairpersons.

Other delegates include members of the NRM’s diaspora branches, historical leaders forum, executive committees of special organs such as the Women’s League, Youth League, Workers League, Elders League, PWDs League, Entrepreneurs League, and the NRM/A Veterans League. Also invited are chairpersons of NRM district conferences, city and municipal division leaders, sub-county and town council representatives, as well as up to 20 individuals handpicked by the party national chairman as observers.

At the conference, delegates will also vote to elect new members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), the party’s top decision-making organ.

After the above conferences, the final conference is expected to culminate in the endorsement of President Yoweri Museveni as the party’s presidential flag bearer and national chairman.

The 2024 NRM delegates conference is seen as a strategic milestone as the party gears up for the next national election cycle. It also reinforces President Museveni’s dominance within the party, as he is poised to secure another term as the NRM’s presidential candidate.
