President Toweri Museveni has pledged to contribute shs 3billon towards the construction of the cancer treatment centre at Nsambya hospital.
The pledge was made by the Speaker of parliament Rt Hon Anita Among while launching the 15th edition of the annual rotary cancer run 2026.
The run is scheduled for 30th August 2026 under theme: “Gwanga Mujje”.

This year the run is targeting to raise 6 billion with expected participation of 100,000 runners.
The run supported by centenary bank will be hosted at kololo independence grounds, and the mission is to complete the cancer treatment center at nsambya hospital.

Among called upn the corporate entities and the public to support and participate in the forth coming cancer marathon to raise funds for the project.
According to ministry of health Uganda faces a significant cancer burden with approximately 34,000 to 36,000 new cases and over 22,000 deaths annually. The most common types include cancer of the cervix, breast, prostate, Kaposi sarcoma, and oesophagus. High infection-related risks (42%) and late-stage presentation (III or IV) drive high mortality rates
Beatrice Lugalambi, Centenary Bank’s General Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing, expressed pride in the bank’s enduring partnership with the Rotary movement.

Lugalambi stressed the importance of continued collective action to address this gap. “Building on the momentum from the past 15 years, we must ramp up our efforts to tackle cancer effectively,” she noted.
As part of its ongoing commitment, Centenary Bank has pledged 500 million Ugandan shillings to support cancer care for the 2025 event. In line with its Corporate Social Investment strategy, the bank annually allocates 2% of its net profit to initiatives in health, education, and environmental sustainability across the country.
Since the inception of the event, Centenary Bank has contributed over shs 4 billion to the cause, reinforcing its dedication to making a meaningful difference.

“Our partnership aligns with our mission to enhance the lives of Ugandans,” she added.
According to the Uganda Cancer Society, only a small fraction of the 33,000 to 34,000 new cancer cases diagnosed annually in Uganda receive early treatment at the Uganda Cancer Institute.
