Victoria University (VU) has officially entered a historic era of hyper-growth and digital transformation, establishing itself as one of Uganda’s fastest-growing and most progressive higher learning institutions.

Since its inception in 2013, the university has transitioned from a small boutique institution into a national educational powerhouse, driving a tech-first approach to academic excellence.

Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga, the university’s student population has grown exponentially from just 180 learners in 2020 to an impressive 16,000 students.

At the university’s  10th graduation ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the university graduated 2,600 students—a staggering jump from the 48 graduates recorded in 2021.

The university launched its ambitious 5-Year Strategic Plan (2025/26–2029/30) and established an institutional Tribunal to pioneer streamlined internal governance and dispute resolution

Technology-Driven Education: Victoria University operates on a core philosophy that prioritizes hands-on innovation, a flexible trimester learning system, and heavy integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into everyday coursework.

Unlike traditional theory-based systems, VU explicitly designs its programs to turn “potential into productivity,” ensuring every learner graduates with practical proof of workplace readiness and direct industry links

Dr. Muganga remains a leading voice for digital adoption in East Africa, actively urging governments, parents, and employers to embrace AI. He argues that technological immersion is critical to fueling Uganda’s ambition of achieving a tenfold economic expansion.

Backed by its official charter from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), Victoria University’s massive population boom, rapid rise in prestige, and advanced digital infrastructure have drastically elevated its competitive standing among Ugandan universities. It is now widely recognized as a premier destination for modern corporate and tech education.

Moving beyond its current home at Victoria Towers on Jinja Road, the university’s primary investor, city tycoon Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, has provided prime land to construct a state-of-the-art mega-campus in Naguru, Kampala (opposite the Phaneroo Grounds).

Construction for the modern complex kicks off in January 2027.According to management the architectural blueprints feature a high-tech design crafted for collaborative, tech-centric education.

“Crucially, the long-term roadmap incorporates a state-of-the-art teaching hospital designed to anchor the university’s upcoming, highly anticipated medical school,”Dr Lawrence Muganga said.

Muganga also urged the government, parents, employers and educational institutions to embrace artificial intelligence, arguing that technological adoption would be critical to Uganda’s ambition of achieving a tenfold expansion of its economy.
