Djibouti’s parliament has removed the constitutional age ceiling for presidential candidates, opening the door for Ismail Omar Guelleh the incumbent to seek a sixth term despite being 77 years old. Guelleh won his fifth term in 2021 with more than 98 percent of votes after opposition groups boycotted the election.
