By Felix Oketcho Pearl Bank Uganda has entered a four-year strategic partnership with the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) to establish a specialized Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Centre in Uganda, According to officials this move is aimed at expanding access to life-saving treatment for patients battling sickle cell disease, HIV-related complications and other complex blood disorders. The Public Procurement and Disposal Asset Appeals Tribunal has dismissed an application by Roko Construction challenging its disqualification from sh 65bilion tender floated by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS). In a detailed ruling, the tribunal upheld UBOS’s decision to eliminate Roko at the preliminary stage and confirmed the award to CRJE East Africa Ltd. Butabika National Referal Mental Health Hospital has raised concern over sharp increase in mental health cases in Uganda. Dr. Juliet Nakku, Executive Director, says the number of patients seeking treatment especially youths has significantly risen. “Butabika Hospital is too full due to the rising number of people with mental health conditions. Most of the patients are youths,” Dr. Nakku said. She noted that the hospital lacks adequate space and beds to accommodate new patients. “Right now, we do not have enough space.
