After five years of impactful intervention, Uganda Infant mortality rate has declined, Uganda National Bureau of Statistics health survey report has revealed. The Demographic and Health Survey 2022 report released shows that infant mortality rate reduced from 88 deaths per 1000 live births in 2000/2011 to 36 deaths per 1000 live births in 2022. The report further show that under five mortality also declined from 151 deaths per 1000 live births to 52 deaths live births in the same period. Although Uganda launched her digital transformation agenda last year, Uganda’s low uptake and penetration of smartphones in the country is affecting the digital transformation agenda Uganda Communication Commission (UCC), Executive Director Nyombi Thembo has revealed. According to Nyombi only 22% of Ugandans own smartphones, which makes it very difficult to fully drive the country into the digital agenda. The 2024 Miss World contest concluded in India, with Miss Uganda, Hannah Karema, winning the Miss World Africa Beauty With A Purpose (BWAP) award. To win this award, Hannah surpassed over 100 contestants although she didn’t clinch the overall crown, which was won by Czech Republic’s Krystyna Pyszková, she made it to the top 8 and also secured the second position in Africa. The Vice Chancellor of Clarke International University (CIU) Dr Rose Clarke Nanyonga has asked Parliament to expedite the process to ensure that student loan scheme benefits all university students to improve higher education uptake. Presiding over the university 14th graduation ceremony Nanyonga said eligible students are failing to complete university because of lack of tuition fees to secure their university education. “We would government to extend loan scheme to all universities to ensure that those eligible for university education can complete their education,” she said.
