EC ANNOUNCES  DEADLINE FOR COLLECTION OF VOTERS LOCATION SLIP

The  independent Electoral Commission (EC) has announced 13th January 2026  as the final date to collecting  Voters Location Slips (VLS), ahead of the upcoming elections.

EC has stressed that the Voter Location Slip confirms a voter’s assigned polling station and is issued free of charge at parish and ward offices nationwide.

“Collect your Voter Location Slip (VLS) free of charge from your parish or ward by 13 January 2026,” the EC stated.

EC Spokesman Julius Mucunguzi has however urged voters to pick up their slips early, warning that failure to do so before the deadline could lead to inconvenience or delays on polling day.

“I encourge voters to check their personal details on the slip and report any errors immediately,”h e stated.

He said the  exercise aims to reduce confusion, ease voter flow, and ensure orderly voting during the election period. .

Uganda is set to go to the polls on 15 January 2026.

General elections are scheduled to be held in on 15 January 2026 to elect the  President and Mmembers of Parliament.

The  President  is elected using the two  round  systems with candidates needing to receive at least 50% + 1 of the vote to be elected in the first round. Chapter 142 of the Presidential Elections Act of 2000 stipulates that presidential candidates must be a citizen of Uganda by birth and be qualified to be an MP. Candidates are also required to be of sound mind and have no formal connection with the  Electoral Commission .

Parliament  has a total of 529 seats, including 353 representatives elected 146 seats reserved for women are filled, with one seat per district. Finally, 30 seats are indirectly filled via special electoral colleges: 10 by the army, 5 by youths, 5 by elders, 5 by unions, and 5 by people with disabilities. In each of these groups, at least one woman must be elected (at least two for the army group
