Sports Club Villa has called upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently investigate and bring to justice those responsible for the tragic death of club captain David Owori, who succumbed to injuries sustained following a brutal assault by unknown assailants in Makindye Division.
Owori was attacked near his home in Makindye before being rushed to Case Clinic in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he sadly passed away, leaving the Club, the football fraternity, and the nation in mourning.
In an official statement, SC Villa condemned the senseless act of violence and appealed to the authorities to ensure that those behind the attack are apprehended and prosecuted.
“We call upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently pursue, apprehend, and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”the statement reads
The Club described Owori’s passing as a devastating loss, noting that Uganda has lost not only an accomplished footballer but also an exceptional leader and role model.
“This senseless act has robbed the Club and the country of a committed captain and a promising sportsman, and it must not go unanswered.”the statement adds.
Owori the longest serving players at SC Villa featured for among other clubs Proline and Vipers in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League was part of the SC Villa squad that won a record extending 17th league title in 2023/24.
He captained SC Villa to the Fufa Super 8 trophy last season and even featured in the first game of the current series in the 1-1 draw with Maroons on Saturday.
His death has prompted an immediate outpouring of grief from teammates, ex-teammates, rival clubs, football governing bodies and the Parliament of Uganda where a moment of silence was observed with Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa calling for security to investigate the manner of the attack.
