Moses Nkonge Kibalama the founding President of National Unity Platform (NUP) has formally withdrawn the long-running court action challenging the party’s leadership and constitution and asked to reconcile with the party he helped create.
Kibalama made the announcement during a joint appearance at NUP headquarters in Kavule in Kampala.
Kibalama and former Secretary General Paul Simbwa Kagombe signed documents abandoning their legal claims, apologised to party leaders and members, and pledged not to pursue further attempts to reclaim control of the party.
The two said the decision was voluntary and motivated by a desire for unity and political stability within NUP.

“We have not been promised money or positions. We are back on grounds of merit,” Kagombe said during the gathering. NUP officials including senior party figures welcomed the development as a positive step toward internal stability ahead of the next round of national contests.
Kibalama described the choice to withdraw the suit as a move in the interest of party unity rather than the result of any inducement.
Courts have intermittently adjourned and considered those petitions since then.
