Although the Judiciary has registered 80% achievements in implementing NRM Manifesto 2021/2026, Judiciary Permanent Secretary has requested Ministry of Finance to increase Judiciary budget to shs 800billion to enable the Judiciary to hit 100percent of service delivery level.
In the financial year 2023/4 the Judiciary received only 442billion which is below their requirement of shs 800billion.
Bigirimana made his humble request while presenting the Judiciary milestone achievements in realizing NRM manifesto 2021 to 2026 in Kampala.
According to him the Judiciary was able to reduce levels of corruption at the judiciary, improve online court sessions and access to internet services allowing officers to operate efficiently in their daily justice sector.
The Judiciary was also able to save government from loss of shs 8.5billion in rent expenses as judiciary was able to complete construction of twin towers on time.
“We installed cctv cameras all over the courts, installed video conferencing facilities and recruited 1,200 judicial officers hence reduced case backlog by 27%,” Bigirimana explained.
The new twin courts has conference halls with seating capacity of 600 and 500 besides other facilities like ultra modern gym for aerobics.
He however decried Inadequate manpower to match the demands justice operations and limited budgetary provision despite government commitment to increase Judiciary budget.
