Cabinet seating on 15th December 2025, approved the budget framework paper 2026/2027.
According to State Minsiter for ICT Godfrey Kabbyanaga the theme of 2026/27 budget is:Full monetization of Uganda’s economy through commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Expanding and Broadening Services, Digital Transformation and Market Access.
He said government also approved the restocking program for Acholi, Lango and Teso Sub-region to the tune of Shs.80billion.
Government aslo approved the extension of the term of office of Local Councils I and II and Women Councils, in compliance with the Constitution and the Local Government Act, Cap 138, for a period not exceeding 180 days.
“As you may recall upon expiry of the term of Office of Administrative Unit Councils on 28th June 2025, upon approval of Cabinet, the Minister of Local Government extended 180 days, from 29th June 2025 and this therefore expires on 30th December 2025.Cabinet has therefore approved an extension of the term of Office of Administrative Units (Local Council I and II) for a period not exceeding 180 days from 31st December 2025,”Minister Kabbyanga stated.
Government also approved the Magistrate’s Courts (Amendment) Bill 2025; with the following expected outcomes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the justice system in Uganda and strengthen judicial administration and accountability by aligning the legal framework with the current judicial structure and empowering the Chief Justice to effectively manage magisterial areas and case transfers.
This bring along promotion of timely, fair and affordable justice delivery, restore public confidence in the courts and contribute to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals 16 on Peace, Justice and strong Institutions, as well as the objectives of NDP IV and Vision 2040.
