Uganda’s National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has unveiled a new online portal aimed at streamlining the registration and renewal process for national identity cards, allowing citizens to initiate applications remotely before visiting a NIRA center for biometric capture. The platform, accessible through the NIRA website, targets both first-time applicants and individuals whose IDs are due to expire, particularly those set to lapse in June 2025. The High Court in Kampala has nullified the election of Hon. Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as the Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division North. The consumption of traditional, unregulated alcoholic beverages in Uganda, commonly known as artisanal illicit alcohol, increased to 71% of the total alcohol market in 2024, up from 69% in 2020. This is according to a new custom research report released by the Alcohol Industry Association of Uganda (UAIA). The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the immediate suspension of all ongoing defence and military cooperation activities with the Federal Republic of Germany. Minister of lands, Housing and urban development Hon Judith Nabakooba Nalule, has commissioned a newly constructed health facility at Mpongo health center III in Bbanda sub county Mityana District.
