The State Minister for Disability Affairs Hon Hellen Asamo Grace has appealed to the general public to vote for in the next parliamentary elections  to ensure that she continues legislatting for Persons with  Disability

“i wish to appeal to my voters to consider me as the best candidate for another term in parliament.I pledge to continue advacating for inclusive friendly policies  for Persons With Disabilty,”she stated.

Addressing the media in Kampala Asamo highlighted iprogrammes like Parish Development Model,Education,increased Sage Grant to elderly and Infrastructure  development as her top  priority in her manifesto.

She also pledged to implement National Disability Manifesto launched recently by National Union of Disabilty Person in Uganda (NUDIPU)and NRM agenda 2026 of Protecting the Gains.

 The National Disability Manifesto for 2026-2031 serves as a strategic advocacy and accountability tool aimed at advancing the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities in Uganda. Key focus areas include:-Inclusive education, Social protection programs that benefit persons with disabilities, Inclusive Health and Technology, Inclusive employment, access to justice, reasonable accommodation and full participation in politics.

A professional educationalist, Asamo has been a Member of Parliament since 2011 to date Representing Persons with Disabilities in the Uganda Parliament.

Hon. Asamo Hellen Grace wields over 20 years working experience in legislation community mobilization, advocacy, as well as Gender Equity and Gender roles.

She has been the Chairperson Equal Opportunities committee of Parliament from 2017 to date while also being a member of the committee of Legal and Parliamentary affairs from 2018 to date.

She has been a Board member of IGAD committee of Women Peace and Security from 2016 to date.

She served as Deputy Executive Director, National Union of Persons with Disability from 2003 to 2011.

She still serves as an Executive Member of the National Women’s Council a position she has held since 2002.

The council is charged with policy formulation for purposes of advocating for increased budgets for women’s projects.

Between 2014 and 2017, she served as the Chairperson University Council of International University of East Africa.
