President Yoweri Museveni’s younger brother, Nowomugisha Sedrack Nzaire Kaguta, has officially withdrawn from the race for NRM National Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, citing the need for unity and cohesion within the ruling party.

In a statement released via his official socials on Thursday, August 21, Nzaire said his decision followed broad consultations with the Central Executive Committee (CEC), chaired by President Museveni. He noted that personal ambition must take a back seat to the collective good of the party.

“After broad consultations with the Central Executive Committee (CEC), chaired by H.E. Kaguta Museveni, I have agreed to withdraw my candidature from the race for NRM National Vice Chairman – Western Uganda,” Nzaire announced.

He explained that his decision was driven by the spirit of harmonization and stability in the party ahead of the hotly contested elections scheduled for the NRM Delegates Conference later this month.

“As a loyal cadre of the NRM, I firmly believe that personal ambition must always give way to the collective good of the Party and the Country. It is in this spirit that I have taken this step, confident that it best serves the stability and cohesion of our Party,” Nzaire said.

He also extended best wishes to his colleagues still in the race and urged Ugandans to continue rallying behind the National Resistance Movement as the vehicle for Uganda’s progress and transformation.

Nzaire’s withdrawal reshapes the contest for the Western Uganda Vice Chairmanship slot, one of the key positions within the NRM’s top organ, as the party gears up for the Delegates Conference on August 28–29, where new leaders for the 2025–2030 term will be elected.
