HUNDREDS OF YOUTH ENDORSE NAKKU FIONA FOR NATIONAL FEMALE YOUTH MP

Hundreds of youth across the country have endorsed Nakku Fiona for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament for the period 2026 to 2031.

This follows her nomination at National Resistance Movement electoral commission headquarters in Kampala.

Excited with mammoth crowd of energic youth leaders who escorted her for nomination and launch of her campaign road map at Kati Kagti restaurant in Kampala Nakku Fiona adiehard Mobiliser of National Resistance pledged to tackle all youth challenges once elected to parliament.

“I know all the challenges Uganda youth face like unemployment, representation and access to government programmes. I pledged to mobilize all youth to access government programmes like Parish Development Model, legislate for youth empowerment among others,” Nakku said.

According to the 2024 UBOS census, the youth population (18-30 years) in Uganda constitutes 22.7% of the total population. This translates to a significant portion of the country’s population being in this age bracket, reflecting Uganda’s status as a youthful nation. The census also revealed that over half the population (50.5%) are children aged 17 and under. 

Addressing her advent youth mobilisers ,Nakku pledged to transverse throughout the country to mobilize votes ahead of August 22nd voting date.

Meanwhile NRM Electoral Commission (EC) has so far  nominated over 2000 party members of the nomination exercise for the July primary elections for MPs, district LC chairpersons, and Mayors.

The Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, said he expects many more aspirants in the second week of the nomination exercise which will close on Monday 30th.

Close to 3000 aspirants are expected to return the nomination papers by the close of the nominations.
 Dr Tanga Odoi congratulated the NRM young cadres for the spirited fight against the opposition during the concluded youth elections, winning over 85% of all votes across the country.

“We did very well and I want to thank the party and the boys and girls, for outweighing NUP and other political parties. “Where there was chaos, we want to request NUP to accept that the trend is changing and we are ready for them,” Tanga said.
