revealed.

our services easily. Under Kampala Service Area, we have 28 Branches,

and Western & South Western Region – 70 Branches,”he emphasized.
As of 2024, NWSC’s non-revenue water was 34%, with plans to reduce it to
30% by 2029. The total population benefitting from NWSC water supply in
2024 was estimated at 18 million, with a target to increase that to 25 million
by 2029.

NWSC has launched a Corporate Plan for 2024-2027, aimed at expanding
water and sanitation services to more Ugandans, themed “Water and
Sanitation for All”.

To achieve this target NWSC Managing Director Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha
has emphasized the need for patriotism and collaboration between
government and the public in paying services for the corporation.

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is a public utility
company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda. It was initially
established under Decree No. 34 of 1972 as a public corporation mandated
to provide water supply and sewerage services in designated urban areas.

This legal framework was later repealed and replaced by the National
Water and Sewerage Corporation Act, Cap 204, Laws of Uganda, which,
under Section 5(1), mandates NWSC to operate and provide water and
sewerage services in areas entrusted to it on a sound commercial and
viable basis.

The Corporation operates under the broader legal framework of the Water
Act, Cap 164, Laws of Uganda, which consolidates laws relating to water
resource management. Under Section 46 of the Water Act, NWSC is
required to enter into a performance contract with the Ministry of Water and
Environment (MWE) to provide water and sewerage services efficiently and
economically to the people of Uganda.

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) provides water
and sewerage services to 258 towns across Uganda, serving over 18
million people through approximately 800,000 connections. The National
Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has a water asset base valued
at approximately UGX 4.5 trillion (US$1.23 billion) as of 2025, and it
supplies 730 million cubic meters of potable water daily. NWSC’s asset
base has grown significantly, increasing from UGX 3.5 trillion to UGX 4.5
trillion over the past three years.
