Electoral Commission (EC) has begun an extensive national recruitment exercise to enlist 35,734 temporary workers who will operate and train others on the newly acquired biometric voter verification machines for the 2026 General Election.

The recruitment follows the arrival of the biometric equipment, which the Commission says marks a major step toward strengthening electoral integrity.

The machines will be deployed at all polling stations to authenticate voters using fingerprints before ballot papers are issued.

EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the biometric system is intended to block avenues that previously enabled voter impersonation and ballot stuffing.

Each polling station will have at least one operator, while more than 1,000 trainers per county will be mobilized to prepare the personnel who will run the machines on polling day.

The roles are short-term but critical to the Commission’s broader plan to modernize election management.

According to officials, the ideal applicants are Ugandans with basic ICT skills, strong ethical conduct, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. All recruits will undergo mandatory training before deployment.

The EC has urged qualified individuals to submit applications via its official website, noting that training will be conducted in phases across districts ahead of the national rollout of the biometric system.
