ADDRESS NON TARIFF BARRIERS TO UNLOCK DEVELOPMENT, MUSEVENI

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has advised landlocked developing countries to ensure that all non-tariff barriers are stopped if poor counties are to unlock their full development potential.

President Museveni’s message is contained in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah at the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked developing countries taking place in the City of Awaza in Turkmenistan.

The Premier is leading a delegation of Ugandans to deliberate on how 32 Landlocked developing countries in the world can unlock their full potential in order to obtain socio-economic transformation.

The President further called on developed countries to support landlocked developing countries with concessional loans to allow them to finance their infrastructure development programmes.

During the opening ceremony, UN Secretary General Antonio Gutarez highlighted the challenges Landlocked countries are facing, making it difficult for them to realise their development needs.

At the sideline meeting , the Prime Minister also informed the delegates of the steps Uganda has taken to jump start her manufacturing sector in order to realise the 500 billion US dollar growth strategy by 2040 away from 50 billion US dollars.

The president of Turkmenistan Serdar  Berdimuhamedov further called on landlocked developing nations to  strengthen their cooperation through developing joint infrastructural projects, digital connectivity, and adapting climate resilience mechanisms as a priority.

The conference has attracted heads of state, Vice Presidents,  Prime Ministers and Ministers representing their countries.
