GOVERNMENT TO SKILL 4500 YOUTH

Atleast 4,560 youth and women have been admitted to the 19 Presidential Industrial Hubs for a six-month vocational training program that commenced on 1st August 2025.

Eng. Raymond Kamugisha the Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, told the media that trainees will undergo intensive hands-on training in tailoring, hairdressing, carpentry, and leather designing.

Upon completion, they will receive certificates equivalent to Uganda Certificate of Education and startup capital to apply their skills in communities.

“It is our vision to empower these young people with practical skills that can transform their lives. Plans are also underway to establish a TVET University where graduates can further their studies and acquire diplomas and degrees,” Kamugisha said.

According to Kamugisha at Bukedi Presidential Industrial Hub in Kibuku District, 240 trainees reported for this year’s second intake. this marks the fourth intake since inception, with the program already transforming many lives.

“This is a life-changing opportunity. Besides vocational courses, the hub implements President Museveni’s Four Acre Model, equipping students with agricultural skills to boost household income,”the Hub’s Manager, Ms. Teddy Ouma, said

Kibuku Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Samuel Musiho, emphasized the Four Acre Model’s role in fostering self-reliance.

Kamugisha says since its launch three years ago, 15,480 youths and women have been trained nationwide.

In Kayunga District Leaders have hailed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the initiative, calling it a critical tool against poverty and unemployment. Butebo District LCV Chairperson,James Okurut, and Commercial Officer Mr. Joseph Karyebi praised the program for empowering vulnerable groups.

Kamugisha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding vocational education and creating academic and economic pathways for graduates.“The Presidential Industrial Hub was started by H.E the President to tap into the masses of Uganda, especially the young people who lack jobs and skills to get employed. This project also benefits those people who never went to school at all free of charge,” he noted.

“We have so far skilled 16,169 youth under the Presidential Hub project and over 60,000 from Kampala Skilling. We have 19 Presidential Industrial Hubs across the country and 9 skilling centres within Kampala. Interestingly once you finish, we now give you startup capital through the district SACCOs.”
